What Movatic Taught Me About the Magic of Mobility

It was June of 2018 and I had just moved into a new place. The location was near one of the biggest parks in the country and central to all of the areas I liked to spend my leisure time, except for one place...my gym.

The Gathering Place in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The park spans 100 acres.

My gym was now clear across town. I know, it's the epitome of a first-world problem, but I came to the realization that it was more practical to find a place closer to where I lived. I knew I'd miss the familiar faces and layout of the place, but it was an opportunity to try something new.

Later that week, I learned that bike-sharing was a free amenity available to me, and I didn't think too much of it at first. It had been years and years since I went bike riding, so the idea faded into obscurity as a result. Now that I lived near a ton of biking and running trails, the idea of picking a bike back up suddenly reappeared on my radar.

To rent a bike, I had to download the Movatic app. Luckily, the setup process was quick and easy. Just like that, I was reintroduced to the excitement of hopping on a bike and riding down the trail near my house, appreciating the statues, river, and scenic views near my house that I never paid attention to when I drove past them in my car. It took me back to the days when I was a child and biking was the only form of transportation accessible to me. It was a much-welcomed rediscovery of bike riding, as I began to see many parts of my world through a new lens. It makes you wonder- how many other people have this epiphany after they hop on a bike or scooter for the first time in years? How many people are waiting to have this epiphany?

I've been consistently bike riding since that day, and the decision to download the Movatic app and hop on a bike had a snowball effect of sorts. After a few months, I began to notice myself losing a ton of weight, which inspired me to fine-tune my diet as well to maintain my new physique. Who would have thought that all of these events would have led me to being a part of the Movatic team as well? A lot of small changes that opened the door for big impacts seemingly started with the simple decision to hop on a bike. I know that if bike-sharing practically had a magical impact on me, it has the potential to do the same for others.
